Things are good mostly, I'm just sort of bumping along trying to figure out what to do next. I'm going to do a 100 mile solo hike on Isle Royale National Park in a few weeks, I'm really excited. Woman vs. Wild. I just want to do things and see things and feel my muscles burn!

Still nothing from the peace corps. I'm starting to think of other things to do, maybe move out west or to Maine or teach English abroad? Maybe go to grad school or do AmeriCorps? At any rate I am going to move in with my brother for a little while down in Bloomytown in November. I'm looking forward to being around people I love and eating a lot of ethnic food and maybe (hopefully) working 9-5 and not living with my co-workers.

It should not be 35 degrees in June. Other than that, I'm living the dream!

This weekend there was a church retreat here. They talked a lot about how gay people should not get married and prayed for the country blah blah blah. There was a seminar called "Evil is Evil" where they had the kids all use our kitchen to make cookie dough, obviously thinking they were making cookies, and after the dough was all ready they had the kids close their eyes and poured dirt into the mixing bowls. Something to do with how letting evil into one part of your life taints the whole thing. If you want to really bum a group of kids out, do that.

I really hate working weekends like these ones. They put me in a bad mood. A few months ago we had this crazy, even cult-like, group out here and their culminating activity was watching this woman draw this pretty nature scene on a big canvass and then at the end they turned out all the lights and switched on a black light and sure enough, Jesus was actually looking down on the freshly drawn stream and trees from heaven.

After today I start normal Monday-Friday 9-5 work weeks which will be nice. I am also getting cable with all the extras which will be really nice. It's lightly snowing right now and there probably isn't another person in a mile radius at least. My house is cozy and all mine now, it's nice.

It rained almost everyday but I was with ten super incredible people and we had a blast anyway. It's insane how big Alaska is and how untouched and beautiful it is. We hiked this trail in the Klondike Gold Rush National Park and it was so filled with history and insane beauty.

I read "Into the Wild" to my kids and they loved it, and it was the perfect book to read in the Alaskan wilderness.

I'm pretty happy.

I was really drunk when I wrote this. Also the school is the University of Michigan and the program is a Masters of Social Work with a focus on community development and non-profit management. Plus I think I am going to apply to do a joint masters in urban planning. Weeee!

+ No one seems to be monitoring the new "no internet" rule at the KCR.
+ August is almost over, and it is totally my least favorite month.

I was supposed to work today from 8am-2pm at Wright. I was 20 minutes late because I left Pete's keys at PeterKarenHilaryJesi's house last night (thank goodness your door wasn't locked so i didn't have to wake anyone!!). I got there, sorted a SHIT TON of mail for 1.5 hours and then my boss told me it was too dead for them to pay me to stay. Fine by me!

This break was very nice, but way too short. Being home was nice, as was loafing around Bloomington (or rather in front of the tv) with Pete, Ian, and a dash of Dan. Basically I have done nothing and it has been great. I saw "Walk the Line" with my brother and Pete, and liked it alright. I spent some time in Indy with friends, had a nice drive home with Mr. Wertz, and played a lot of Donkey Kong.

I don't have much to say, but there is no one home and everyone else is probably asleep, and damn I am bored like you wouldn't believe.

(ps- if anyone waaants to play dodgeball today, i would be up for it. i'll reserve a court if people want to play so we don't have to be in the crazy gym again.)

More about dodgeball [Nov. 9th, 2005|02:46 pm]
Updated Rules: (There are other updated rules highlighted throughout.)

**Games will last up to three (3) minutes.

**Once a ball is thrown, if it hits anything other than another player, the ball is DEAD.

**If a player is hit by a ball deflecting off a teammate ONLY the player is out.

** Once both teams are down to 2 or fewer players, the players may cross the centerline to attack opponents. During the time the teams are allowed to cross the line you must throw the ball at an opposing player to get them out. Simply touching them with a ball does not qualify.

Rules of the Game:

1. Teams consist of 6 players. The minimum number of players required at game time to prevent forfeit is 4. Co-Rec: Teams may not participate if they have more males playing than females. If your team is not playing you are to be on the sidelines.

2. All games will take place in SRSC Center courts 4 & 5. Each game lasts up to three (3) minutes running time. At the start of each game, eight balls (5 small and 3 large) balls will be lined up on the mid-court line. When time starts, teams will run to the center line to retrieve the balls. Each team must be lined up on their end line at the start.

3. The object is to throw the ball at the opposing team and contact one or more of the opponents. Any person contacted by a thrown ball on the fly is out of the game (deflections off the basket, basketball net, ceiling, wall or floor do not count...but deflections off a do count). Players are never replaced.

4. The person throwing the ball is out if the ball is caught by an opposing player on the fly.

5. Also if the ball comes in contact with the opposing player's head, the person throwing the ball is out. (If a player ducks or lowers their head and the ball hits their head the player contacted will be out. The thrower will remain in the game. This is not considered a "head shot" because the ball was not aimed at the head.)

6. The thrower is not out if the ball is caught after deflecting off anything other than another player. If the ball does bounce off an opposing player, and is then caught by another opposing player, the only person out is the thrower. Subsequently, if an opposing player blocks a thrown ball with a ball in his/her possession, the thrown ball is dead at that point (unless the ball is caught in the above situation).

7. Once a player is out, he/she must leave the playing area and stand in the designated area on his/her teams' side. If no players from a team are out, a maximum of one player at a time from that team may enter the out of bounds area to retrieve any balls on their side. If more than one player enters the out of bounds while there are no players out, the last player(s) to enter the out of bounds area will be called out.

8. All players are confined to one half of the gym, with their teams' side being bound by the walls and court separation line. Any player who steps out of bounds will be called out. The only exception to this rule is, as stated above, if there are no players out for a team and one player is seeking to retrieve balls in the out of bounds area on their teams' side (baseline). Once both teams are down to 2 or fewer players, the players may cross the centerline to attack opponents.

9. The losing team is the team with all players eliminated or the fewest number of players when time expires. Ties are possible (regular season only) if both teams have the same number of players at the buzzer.

10. Delaying the game (i.e. holding all of the balls, standing in the corner) is not allowed. If a player holds a ball for more than 10 seconds, that player will be called out. Any player deemed to be not actively making an attempt to engage an opponent (hiding to protect players) shall be declared out.

11. Supervisors are not there to call people out, it is self officiated. If the there is a questionable call the CAPTAINS are responsible for resolving it, not the supervisors. If the captains cannot resolve the conflict in 1 MINUTE or less, the game will be called a double forfeit and the next game will begin. Teams waiting to play may help declare players out.

------->There you have it, folks. We need at least one more lady to join Kilary Powers and H8lin Owens in order for us to be able to play!

So if anyone might be interested in this let me know. I would be willing to be the team captain, which just means I have to go to a meeting and probably give them my email address or something. If no one is interested that's fine too. I figure it wouldn't take the place of regular dodgeball on the weekend, since I bet this won't be everyone's cup of tea and there's no fun in excluding folks. Tell those who don't read the lj who might be interested.
